Hi, I am Elizabeth and I am a Mother too.

I developed It’s Mother’s Turn to help all Mothers learn the importance of taking time to celebrate and care for yourself…

I never wanted to be a stay at home mother, but most of my friends did. I remember my struggles with being able to get my work done and get my child to the doctor’s office, Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts, Church Choir, and so forth. I had support from my husband, and it took me many years to realize how unusual that was.

You see, I was a prepared mother; I had a calendar with every activity and appointment listed. Each family member had their own color coding, my husband and I planned meals on Sunday and had the list on the refrigerator door, everyone had their chore list for Saturday.

I thought I had it all together, I was supermom, wasn’t that what we were supposed to be?

THEN BAM!

It was around 1995 that my life changed. My health deteriorated and I was hospitalized.

I was told I needed to make major health changes.  I saw how it affected my children.

It was at this time that I realized how much of a SLEEP DEFICIT I had!

Yet, I couldn’t even figure out how to start a Night Time Routine.

I went to my doctor to find out how I could make changes and sleep better but he gave me more medication.

It was beyond me and I just went on not having enough sleep.

I’m an empty nester, I have raised my kids, but I will never stop being their mother.

I still need my sleep!

YEARS later, after the kids were gone, I FINALLY figured out how to do it.

Signs you might have a Sleep Deficit. *

  • I know I need to get more sleep, but I have one more thing to do.

Though you may think your five-hours-a-night habit is nothing to worry about, it has been tied to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression.

  • I eat all the time.

If your body is not getting enough of its energy from sleep then, it will get it from food.

  • I have gained weight.

Of course, with an increased appetite you might gain weight.

  • I can’t make a decision.

Even easy decisions, like where or what to eat, becomes hard for you.

  • I find that I can’t remember simple things.

Such as, not finding your glasses or where you put your keys? Not remembering the movie, you saw last week?

  • I keep tripping over things.

Sure you’re sluggish and you find yourself tripping over your own feet several times a day.

  • I can’t focus on what I was doing.

Is your brain foggy?

  • I am getting sick all the time.

Not getting enough sleep causes your body not to have the ability to fight off infections.

  • I am emotional.

You get emotional, irritable, and moody, and it is not just because it is your time of the month. You may even start an argument just for the sake of starting one.

If you have three or more of these signs then you may be dealing with a SLEEP DEFICIT.
