What is the Purpose of Life…..

Have you ever sat and wondered about the Purpose of Life is? Of, course you have all of us have at one time or another.

When I send out an email, I always end it with Choose Happiness…..I wake up every morning, and I decide to Choose Happiness for my day, the reason is that I have not always felt that way, so a couple of years ago I decided to be intentional about it. I am now trying to decide on my Purpose of Life.

Darius Foroux in his blog post The Purpose of Life is Not Happiness: It’s Usefulness starts with:

For the longest time, I believed that there’s only one purpose of life: And that is to be happy.

Right? Why else go through all the pain and hardship? It’s to achieve happiness in some way.

I started thinking about what he wrote and realized that he is right, people seem to chase happiness as if it is something to catch. Happiness is something that you must intentionally achieve. We need to decide what our purpose of life is.

Darius goes on to ask the question:

But here’s the thing: How do you achieve happiness?

Happiness can’t be a goal in itself. Therefore, it’s not something that’s achievable.

I believe that happiness is merely a byproduct of usefulness.

After he started thinking more about what he was doing with his life, he realized that to be happy you have to be useful!

Here are some of his ideas:

  • Help your boss with something that’s not your responsibility.
  • Take your mother to a spa.
  • Create a collage with pictures (not a digital one) for your spouse.
  • Write an article about the stuff you learned in life.
